It started inside Jeanneau’s competition department as Jeanneau Techniques Avancées (JTA), born from a close collaboration between Jeanneau’s management, Fleury Michon, Philippe Poupon, and Jean-François de Prémorel. The first Lagoon 55 debuted in 1987.

On the right bank of the Garonne, the former ACSO shipyard (Ateliers & Chantiers du Sud-Ouest), also known as Forges & Chantiers de Gironde, later began operating as Construction Navale Bordeaux.

Groupe Beneteau, the world leader in sailboat construction, acquired Construction Navale Bordeaux. The first Lagoon 55s were built using epoxy, glass, carbon, and Kevlar in vacuum-infused molds—employing the same techniques as the top racing yachts of the time. About twenty boats were produced before the line expanded with the Lagoon 57, then the Lagoon 37, 42, and 47, and finally the Lagoon 67 in 1994.

Lagoon introduced the brand’s first production-volume catamaran, the Lagoon 410, featuring innovative vertical hull windows that increased interior volume and prevented the greenhouse effect caused by slanted glazing.

Lagoon defied convention with the Lagoon 440, introducing numerous innovations that broke the era’s norms: a flybridge with controls and equipment mounted on the roof, expansive hull windows, a forward cockpit, a wing-shaped wave-piercing nacelle, and an owner’s cabin with an island berth, walk-in closet, and separate shower. More than 100 boats were sold before the model’s debut at the 2004 Miami Boat Show.

The Lagoon 380 made its world premiere in La Rochelle. Comfortable and reliable, it remains unmatched in its class — nearly 1,000 boats have been sold and now cruise the world’s oceans, a record for a cruising catamaran.

Lagoon pushed innovation further with the Lagoon 420 Hybrid — the world’s first production catamaran available with diesel/electric hybrid propulsion.

Unveiled at the Düsseldorf Boat Show, the Lagoon 42 raised comfort and performance to unprecedented levels for a 41-foot catamaran. In the same year the brand broadened its lineup with the SEVENTY 7 — the largest yacht built at the shipyard, a nearly 24‑meter luxury catamaran.

Lagoon kept expanding with the launch of the SEVENTY 8 motor yacht, unveiled at its world premiere in Cannes alongside two new sailing models — the Lagoon 40 and Lagoon 50. Together they marked the arrival of a new generation.

The newest model, the Lagoon 51, has been launched. With innovative design and a layout tailored for a new generation, this catamaran reflects a sustainable construction process and onboard equipment engineered to protect the environment.

Lagoon marks 40 years of craftsmanship and innovation. Since 1984, the brand has been turning owners’ dreams into reality. By 2024, 7,000 Lagoon catamarans will be sailing across the globe.
